Review of From Hell (2001) by Sean P — 18 Aug 2010

I know why Alan Moore probably didn't want to watch Watchmen...he probably thought it'd be like From Hell. Alright, I'll admit it's not that bad it's based on a comic and some.

Of the real life events surrounding Jack the Ripper.

Johnny Depp played the role of the inspector really well, but it's just not a great character to begin with. He has an addiction to opium and other drugs which gives him "hallucinations" that help him look into the murders that are happening. I know this is based on the comic, but man this made the movie corny. I would have liked a real detective style case instead of "oh I saw this in my vision" cmon I felt ripped off.

The other thing that didn't work was the plot with Freemasons and the royalty of England. It was complete garbage! Thrown in there to give the murderer some kind of motive which in all reality there was not suppose to be one! It was unnecessary and makes the beginning of the movie super confusing!! I felt like there were a lot of different things they could have done or made it simpler...instead they throw a lot and make it confusing.

The murder scenes were quite cool actually. Some were very grotesque and nerve wrenching. The ending was total BS though.

Overall, I was pretty disappointed in this movie. Give it a rent at best.
