Hard to believe this film is rated R. It has the feel of a NC-17 film. The direction is excellent and the story is well thought out even if you already can see who Jack the Ripper is going to be. I must admit it's also very disturbing.
The tone is extremely dark and it hardly ever let's up on the violence. It's shoved right in your face, never holding back. On a side note, Depp and Coltrane would've been a perfect Sherlock Holmes and Watson.
