Review of Fritz the Cat (1972) by Dave C — 24 Jul 2008
Bold and humorous in its capturing of the 60s college scene (tracing through the protest scene, drug scene, racial issues and the sexual revolution), this is no doubt a controversy-seeking cartoon. I mean, it was the first X-rated animated film for a reason.
bakshi's vintage style always had an appeal to me, and this probably showcases his work the best. a lot of the dialogue is intriguing, mainly thanks to its characters curiosity and arrogance. many will find this offensive, and at points, disturbing.
nonetheless, its a risky little flick that has fun with its satire.
