Review of Fright Night (2011) by Paul P — 30 Jun 2012
Good fun and a solid flick all round....
I was never a real fan of the original film and my interest in seeing this remake was Farrell and what he would bring in a story like this...
The cast are all on pretty good form with Yelchin fine up front as our hero. This film belongs to Farrell and David Tennant though who are clearly having a blast. Tennant is on particularly good from here and the little ticks and quirks that he brings to Peter Vincent are a lot of fun... This is Farrell's show though, playing vampire Jerry with a nice mixture of fun and menace, the scenes where he is trying to gain entry to Charley's kitchen and the way that he is scoping out the situation, he plays it just right and he brings a wierd other wordly vibe to the film that is difficult to pin down....
It's not a particularly scary film (although there is some good tension and the set pieces are pretty good) and the film works best when Farrell is around, but that on its own makes this a film worth watching....
