Review of Fright Night (2011) by Paul B — 07 Jul 2012
An acceptable remake of an iconic 80's movie that (due to sticking to original plot constraints) renders the premise behind meeting one of the main characters entirely pointless. That character was David Tenant who puts in a brilliant performance but in our post Buffy age the reason to bring him in is now pointless and seems out of place with the context of the rest of the film.
What follows is entertaining , if now derivative, comedy/horror although it is mainly neither of each. Colin Farrell is good in the main role & there is a great cameo by Chris Sarandon & the special effects are so-so.
But that's about it. It's perfectly fine. The original is far, far better.
