Review of Fright Night (1985) by Lee D — 11 Jul 2009
There's plenty bad about this movie. The pace is way to quick, the scripting blows balls, the acting is either bad or just mediocre. But what stands out as exceptional is the simple yet amazing plot. "A movie star helps a teenager to kill vampires".
Fright Night knows that it is a movie and uses that to its advantage by basically stating "what's true in the movies about vampires, is true in real life". That way the movie can get away with anything... and that's exactly what it does with the help of its surprisingly good makeup and special effects. This has some of the most horrific looking vampires in, uh, well... ever, I guess (that I've seen at least). Also, the last 20 minutes of the film is a gore fest... and delicious.
Lastly I'd like to add that this is one of the few non-gay porn films Stephen Geoffreys has done. And if you watch this you'll know why he made the switch to bumfests later in life.
