Review of Fright Night (1985) by Scott M — 30 Oct 2010
Chris Sarandon is great as the vampire living next door, and the creature effects are great (but maybe a little overused). My big beef with the film is that I hate movies that spend most of the narrative with something crazy happening that would never happen in real life, like a vampire moving in next door and killing people, and another character having to spend the whole movie trying to convince everyone he knows, all of whom doubt him.
It just seems like an incredible waste of time since the audience knows that he is (if there was mystery to it, I wouldn't care, but he's clearly established as a vampire very early in the film).
The soundtrack is also very dated, but provided a lot of good laughs, which is good for a horror movie like this one that doesn't take itself too seriously.
