Review of Friends with Money (2006) by Andrew P — 03 Feb 2008
Not so much a fun comedy as I'd expected. Instead this movie shines with really intelligent and unexpected, yet realistic, conversation. Way better than average for these kind of movies. This is what lifts the grade. The story is not bad but not sparkling. On the negative side the end comes suddenly, I'm not a fan of those kind of endings. For me that lowers the grade a bit, to bad, this could have been great.
In the acting department everybody does what they are suppose to do, and does it superb. Aniston does a role not far from the sweat girl that she normally do. And nothing wrong with that, why fix something that isn't broken? An actress that I've discovered lately is Catherine Keener. I really liked her in 40 year old Virgin, and she was just as good in this one. Jason Isaacs (who seems to like to play bad) and McDormand both really manage to play very unpleasant characters, which I think they were suppose to do. The acting yet again raises the rating which makes it 4 stars. A surprisingly intelligent and humane movie in the end. But with an abrupt ending as I was saying.
