Review of Friends with Benefits (2011) by Ana B — 21 Apr 2012
Rom com that show us the story of the friendship between Dylan and Jamie. Both single, both living in New York, both without any luck at dating, the two of them decide add sex to their relationship but without the emotional involvement associated with it. But is that even possible?
This is a movie that claims to break romantic clichà (C)s, however there are so many here that I stopped counting. To start for I do not understand the premise of the film, why would this two be only friends in the first place? why would they avoid the emotional involvement? isnâ(TM)t that a part of a healthy relationship? why the character of Woody Harrelson appears at all? It seems like his only function is to loan his boat to Dylan. The bit that was most crammed with stereotypes are the scenes shot in LA. The whole of Dylanâ(TM)s background is so pre-fabricated that it doesnâ(TM)t ring true.
And the last scene is in a Grand Central Station. Has any of you seen any romantic comedy ending in an airport or a station? Is there anything more clichà (C) that this? No, I donâ(TM)t think so, that is the ultimate clichà (C).
I liked the dialogues between them two at the beginning, they were witty and smart but they talked so much that at the end you feel overwhelmed.
In the overall this film holds itself together for a very thin thread. It isnâ(TM)t awful but the conventionality of the plot makes the viewing slightly dull and predictable. I have definitely seen better.
