Review of Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989) by Danny L — 15 Feb 2009
The film in the series I've re-visited the least, and for a good reason. This is the point in the series (along with 6) where you could tell how the focus of the series had shifted so drastically that there is almost no trace of the origin left.
The movie is just focused on SHOWING Jason kill people, when you would rarely ever actually see him kill in the early installments and it was more about the tension and anxiety. Not only are the kills cheesy and completely reeking of 80s shlock, but since this was still made under the Paramount label, there's almost no gore to speak of shown on screen.
Not worthy of anything besides a watch with some friends to get a number of good laughs.
