Review of Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989) by Ted C — 12 Jun 2014
And here's where things really start going down the toilet. The idea of taking Jason out of Crystal Lake wasn't a bad one, but when your movie is called Jason Takes Manhattan and 95% of it takes place on a boat how can you not expect your audience to be pissed off? This movie fails to deliver anything fans of this series have come to expect.
It's not gory, scary, fun, interesting...in fact the only thing it has going for it is that it's so bad it's hilarious. Some of the script choices and gaps in logic are so jaw droppingly awful they need to be seen to be believed.
Crystal Lake apparently connects to the ocean, Jason can now teleport and has the ability to turn back into a child when exposed to toxic waste. Yeah, wrap your head around that last one. It's a shame, had the movie actually taken place in New York and featured some gory effects it could've been one of the more entertaining entries in the series.
If you absolutely must watch Jason Takes Manhattan...just make sure alcohol is involved.
