Review of Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) by Jonathan Y — 23 Feb 2009
An unnecessary sequel that takes the classic "Jason pops up for two seconds" shock moment from the first flick and turns it into a raison d'être to essentially re-do the same story over again, only this time with even less of a motivation for the copious teen slaughter.
Director Steve Miner steers the proceedings with a workmanlike lack of flair, giving the film neither style nor substance (though, to be fair, there's not much to work with here). Some of the kills are halfway decent, but ultimately an aura of uninspired halfheartedness hangs over "Part 2" like a gray cloud.
