Friday the 13th is a true 80's Film, ingrained into Western pop culture (Although Part 2, and 3 do it better). It lives off Nostalgia and controversy from its time. When Watching the film it makes you feel you in the '80s.
The Acting is ok. Betsy Palmer is really good and to see a young Kevin Bacon is crazy. People go to see these movies for the kills (Again Part 2, and 3 did better). What people forget Friday the 13th comes from the Golden Age of slasher films and set the bar for Future parts of the franchise.
It not for everyone, but if you get a chance give it a watch.
