Review of Frida (2002) by Mauricio P — 14 Feb 2008
Transcending language and culture, this film depicts love and pain in surprising and artistic ways. although sex, politics, and art mingle, it is life itself that's at the core of this piece. it's rare that a movie strives to inspire without effectively descending into moralizing.
.. but it's only by avoiding pedantic commentary that something inspirating is achieved. "frida" gets this right. for the record, though, hayek's description of the process was more moving than the film itself.
