Alfred Hitchcock's last great film. It embodies many of his trademark themes--guilt, murder, male sexual inadequacy, a man falsely accused of a murder he did not commit, a slimy murderer who we want to see get their cumuppence.

It's the film's dark and edgy script that makes this worth savoring. Issues of female abuse and rape are front and center, and one murder scene is harrowing for its brutality. The dialogue is clever and witty with lovely 70s-period British slang sprinkled throughout.

It's delicious and fascinating to see the intricate plot slowly unwind and how the circumsantial evidence could lead many to believe this innocent could be the "Neck Tie Killer." It's a chilling yarn, one whose themes reverberate in us, and thanks to the Master of Suspense, they stay with us long after the credits roll.
