Review of Frenzy (1972) by Chris Z — 14 Mar 2009
Hitchcock was a master at taking old motifs and translating them into a completely original, completely captivating new film. Frenzy is just that. Take a big slab out of "The Lodger" and a bit more "Wrong Man" ("39 Steps" "Young and Innocent" "North By Northwest" too for that matter) add a slice of "Blackmail," and wierdly and exhileratingly enough, you've got another, fantastic, taught thriller.
This time, a lot of his film-making reverts to a classic British feel, and his themes are much more openly dark, but he does it to mix it all up, and it does wonders in the end!
