Review of French Kiss (1995) by Roy H — 24 Feb 2013
This is the best romantic comedy ever. I have seen it at least 40 times. And every woman I have watched it with has loved it. Most people I have recommended it to start off with, "Oh, I don't really like Meg Ryan that much.
." or some similar negattive comment. But after watching, they go like "Well, I must say it was pretty good." "And who was that French actor", meaning Kevin Cline. Trust me, the more you watch it the more you will like it.
I am confounded by the low ratings people give it. The only explanation is that the low ratings come from those that have never been in love. Particularly in France. A great movie is easy to define. First you need a good story.
Then a screenplay with well defined roles. Then great casting. Good acting. Great cinemaphotography, a great sound track, great editing etc. French Kiss has all of this. If I could have made one movie, this would be it.
