Review of French Kiss (1995) by Praveen D — 15 Jul 2013
In the old days, after a few frames, perhaps you knew where a film was headed. You didn't mind, because you would like to see how it indeed got there, or whether there was a twist in the tale. Even if there wasn't, you were charmed, many times, by how the film got to where it was headed anyway.
In French Kiss, you suspect early on that Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline are headed for love. Again, you didn't mind, you wanted to see how they get there. At the end....you're charmed, enchanted.
Movies haven't changed much over the years. Except that we've lost our sense of being charmed, enchanted, especially by the predictable.
It doesn't matter if you can guess the ending - it's the getting there that counts in French Kiss :).
