Review of Freeze Frame (2004) by Stephen K — 30 Jun 2009
Determined to avoid being implicated in any crime, a man videos his every moment and meticulously catalogues a vast archive of footage. Despite this, he is fitted up when a victim of a murder from 5 years before is discovered; and his utter paranoia is proven to be thoroughly justified. This is a stylistically interesting addition to the Peeping Tom genre - although not exactly in the league of Michael Powell's very great film.
Clearly quite low-budget: a very limited cast and two or three sets are used to good effect. It is astonishingly gloomy and claustrophobic though, which makes it hard work to watch. Much of the acting is pretty dire, but nevertheless this is worth a watch, and Lee Evans was pretty good. I happen to find him one of the least funny comedians ever, so it was refreshing to discover that he does actually have some talent.
