Review of Free State of Jones (2016) by David D — 25 Jun 2016
I think the critics were overly harsh on this one. Matthew Mcconaughey of course does an excellent job acting. The story is fairly historically accurate outside of a couple of characters who were more general symbols than actual individuals and the wives situation included far more children. With that said I thought they did a great job capturing the time period and the filming locations were close to where the events actually happened. It's an important piece of history that needs to be told. I know whites.
get portrayed in a negative light in the south during the civil war but there were many who were opposed to slavery and the majority never owned slaves.
Beyond that though it was powerful to see the courage and bravery this man had to stand up to.
Those evils as opposed to just not participating in it.
