Review of Free State of Jones (2016) by Steve W — 29 Jun 2016
Not a perfect movie but an engaging look at a violent and sometimes shameful era of American history. Some real pearls here, such as when Knight says, "At some point everyone is someone's nigger.
" (paraphrase). I like movies that are historical and this one gave so many new "facts' which I will spend time verifying. Did the Confederacy really release from duty sons of slave owners based on how many slaves they owned? Sounds like Viet Nam.
For me, the nobility of the storyline and the main character, Newton Knight, were worth the two hours and 19 minutes. Don't miss it.
