Review of Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991) by Scott P — 10 Feb 2008
Most people say that part 2 is the worst. While that one is pretty damn bad, at least it tried. This one falls on its feet for the most part, however the hearing aid kill was pretty interesting. This is is far more funny than scary and with an exception to Freddy Vs. Jason, this has his lowest kill count (3). Freddy's origins are finally explained and everything is given away about why he can kill in peoples dreams. Once everything is explained like that, its simply not as scary anymore. It took Wes Craven to return to breathe life into the series (and finish it), but it is ultimately this film's fault for there not being any more Elm Street Films. it's about as scary as the director's name is.
When Originally released, the final ten minutes of the film are presented in 3D. This viewing option can also be found in the DVD Box set. It's pretty cool for a while, but you can tell it was a desperate attempt to try and get people to come to the theatre.
Also look for brief cameos of Johnny Depp (his first role was in the original) and Alice Cooper!
