Review of Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991) by Brad G — 11 Oct 2010
Honestly, depending on which day of the week you ask me, I might tell you that Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare is my absolute favorite entry in the Elm Street series. After nearly a decade of hacking & slashing his way through teenagers, Freddy Krueger was feeling a little tired; it was only a matter of time that New Line opted for outright spoofery.
But even though it's loaded with hard winks and nudges, Freddy's Dead still manages to open up the Krueger mythos and give Robert Englund some of his best bits of acting in & out of the latex.
Plus, you've got plenty of fun cameos from Johnny Depp, Roseanne Barr, Tom Arnold, Yaphet Kotto, and Bob Shaye. It's not the horror film this scary franchise started with, but it sure is a whole heap of fun.
