Review of Freddy vs. Jason (2003) by Daniel L — 17 Jan 2015
Considering the concept of this movie, having the 2 most iconic horror mascots in history in a duel to the death should've made for popcorn movie heaven, but this movie is only mildly entertaining.
This movie is rather weird, not because of what happens in the film but of the aspects of it. One example is the acting, of course, englund and kirzinger are fine in their roles as Freddy and Jason, but the others are given way to much humor, this might not seem like much of a problem but what made the other nightmare films work was that they gave all the humor to Freddy and it worked, but the humor goes way to over the top, in fact they give some humor to Jason, why?.
Its script is so messy, aside from Englund being as great as always, but everyone else doesn't seem real. The effects are incredibly poor, aside from a few shots, the effects don't work nowhere near as well as the other nightmare films, why? Because the other ones used practical effects which made the creativity shine so much but we only get ugly cg with few OK shots.
But where the film shines is its action. The actions scenes, while absurdly over the top, are incredibly enjoyable. Seeing Freddy and Jason duke it out is just awesome. So overall, Freddy vs Jason should've been better for what it has going for it, its only an OK movie with some fun moments.
I'll give it a 4.7/10.
