Review of Freddy Got Fingered (2001) by Steven G — 17 Apr 2015
The guiltiest of all my guilty pleasure movies. I can't seriously give this movie a positive rating as it is technically a bad film. It labels itself as a comedy even though it struggles to conjure up even one funny scene.
But . . . as much as I want to hate it, there's just something about this movie that I really enjoy. Maybe it's the giddy enthusiasm of the gags, maybe it's Green's perverse imagination, or maybe the movie is so disgusting and horribly written that it becomes fascinating after awhile, but something keeps me coming back.
I'd probably much rather watch this than any of the "good" comedies to come out during the 2000s, simply because this is just so much more unpredictable and compelling than those films. It's like taking a trip down the tortured psyche of a serial killer.
Skip this film if that sounds like it would be an awful viewing experience, but for those with an open mind, you might like it. It's a cinematic trainwreck you can't take your eyes off of.
