Review of Freddy Got Fingered (2001) by Tyler H — 11 Jul 2012

I actually saw this movie in theaters. I think there were about ten people there, including my girlfriend (now my wife) and I. By the end I think we were the only ones left. This is simultaneously the worst and greatest comedy I've ever seen.

Horrible in the fact that there are little actual laughs in the movie (any laughs come from the always-great Rip Torn) and it seems like Tom Green made this movie solely to amuse himself. And that's what makes it brilliant - that the movie studio, trying to latch on to the current hottest thing ("The Tom Green Show" was on the air at the time) and threw a LOT of money at Green and gave him carte blanche to do whatever he wanted.

And he delivered. And once you realize THAT'S the joke, that the joke is actually on the studio for just trying to ride the latest wave, the movie becomes brilliant.
