Review of Freddy Got Fingered (2001) by Peter H — 16 Jan 2011
FREDDY GOT FINGERED [2001]: Ok I didn't like this film and Ok I did find some moments kind of amusing but other than that it's just irritating. Freddy Got Fingered has become somewhat of a cult legend for the simple fact it's gone down as one of the worst films made in the 2000's. For this movies fans I not trying to brand this film as the worst movie ever made (trust me I'm a bad movie nut and there are films that make this film seem award worthy) it's just another poor and gross out comedy that failed to amuse many people. The whole reason it's been referred as a bad movie is due to it winding up on Wikipedia's Bad Movie List (ok Wiki is a bias source), Roger Ebert slammed the film with a damming review, The Tomato-meter rating for this film is negative on both the critics and community section and the IMDB rating is just as negative. Anyway don't let that stating of facts let you for a moment think that I'm siding with everyone else due this movies bad taste humour. As a matter of fact I enjoy bad taste humour just as long as it does not make me want tear my hair out of my skull, with FREDDY I did feel like doing this.
The Films plot involves an immature 28 year old Gordy trying to become an Animator in Hollywood. But after a stack of poorly-though-out-and- executed failures Gordy must now move back in with his parents. Meanwhile his father starts to demand Gordy to get a job but what it all leads to is Gordy falsely accusing his father fingering his "Square" brother Freddy.
The plot summary I just gave doesn't even cover the plot properly; the whole sub plot where the father is accused of molesting Freddy is the title of the film but is never resolved at all. Instead we have the irritating, annoying, dick-headed, and utter asshole Gordy trying to win his father's affections by trying to sell his cartoon ideas and trying to prove to his father he is a total lost cause. Yeah what I don't get is this, why would the father start loving Gordy after he is falsely accused of sexual assault upon Freddy. And since it's titled FREDDY GOT FINGERED how come Gordy's actions for wrongly accusing his dad of something he didn't do is never brought up before the closing credits. A better title for this waste of space should be this Freddy Got Fingered or Slackers Who Are Dicks Can Gain a Million by Destroying Decent Peoples Life's.
In fact the whole problem I have with this film is the protagonist Gordy, why should the audience feel sorry for some this annoying, vile, gross, immature, wicked and horribly cruel? Gordy gets yelled at for being a loser by everyone but it's deserved and the plot is supposed to make us feel emotionally happy that in the end this characters dream came true. But why in God's name should we like or support Gordy for his actions and usually with slacker comedies (were the main character is some-what of a likable person but down trodden and do turn over a new leaf) but in Gordy's in the end he is the same sick -twisted asshole who should just die.
My harsh rating 40%.
