Review of Freaks (1932) by Alessandro M — 29 Feb 2008
A film that's heart is in the right place. Browning was employed to make a movie that would be more shocking than Frankenstein. Unfortunately that's what the entire focus of the film is based on.
Left without any obvious direction is the acting, editing and script which are all uselessly weak and full of holes. While this film's message does clearly state not to treat others less fortunate than yourself with any less respect, because of the lack of artistic care the film has dated severely and while it is a picture that film students should watch, it's not really essential viewing for anyone.
