It holds up despite the cheesy acting and special effects but it is creepy, sad and shows people who care for each other and are like a family. It also has a message that people still haven't really taken to heart.
Even in the modern politically correct era the people shown in this movie wouldn't be respected, they would be pitied, cringed at and laughed at.
