Review of Frantic (1988) by Aaron T — 23 Jul 2010
I appreciate the slow pace of a Roman Polanski film, especially with his mysteries like Frantic and The Ghost Writer. In both, the action takes place in real time, or seemingly near that, which allows the audience to discover clues and feel the anxiety of the situation along with the main character. In a sense, you feel you are the character rather than observing someone separated from you on the big screen.
The 3rd Act in Roman Polanski films end quickly, which is a very old style of film making. In a way it makes you want more and feel the characters let downs or rewards after the movie. On the other hand, like the character you are left with the results and then sent on your way. Its an interesting choice.
