Review of Frantic (1988) by Joseph E — 02 Oct 2010
Roman Polanski uses his signature directorial flare to craft another compelling thriller, this time with super star Harrison Ford at the fore. It's a film that succeeds based on ambiance and atmosphere more than sheer intensity.
Not a lot happens during the course of its two hour run time, but somehow Polanski manages to ratchet up the sense of foreboding in much the same way he did in "Chinatown." Ford is tailored to the role of the frantic husband on a quest, and it seems like a good precursor to his work in this fugitive, as well as some of the best work Polanski has churned out post-Chinatown.
