Review of Frankie and Johnny (1991) by Panta O — 08 Sep 2011
I'm not familiar with the romantic-drama genre because, well... i'm a straight man, I know that's stereotypical but in this case it's generally true - apologies to those offended by that. Though I thought i'd check Frankie And Johnny out because Al Pacino features and surprisingly I found myself thoroughly entertained throughout.
So the story goes a little something like this - Johnny (Al Pacino) is recently released from prison and he is a recovered character looking to start again, he gets a job at a cafe and falls in love with Frankie (Michelle Pfieffer) a waitress who ultimately repeatedly turns down his advances. Yes it sounds mundane, but the trials both characters undertake individually and together is enough to keep the audience hooked. Both characters feel intense loneliness especially Frankie whom is scared to commit and this is a running theme within the film and Marshall does an excellently to exude this.
Overall I found this to be extremely entertaining, I even laughed in spots, felt sad in others...worth a buy.
