Review of Frankenstein's Army (2013) by Wilhelm H — 24 Sep 2013
I expected a trashy horror comedy, but what I got was actually a real horror flick "hand camera style". Okay, the thing with the hand camera was a little off, because first of all it plays during the end of the second world war and second, the quality in some parts of the movie, especially towards the end, was absolutely good quality digi cam style.
But hey: maybe the Russians where technologically so ahead. At least in one part of the movie one character mentions/questions the microphone on the cam and the model itself, so the filmmakers are pretty aware of that and integrated it ;).
The movie itself? Really surreal, brutal and bizarre at some times. Even disturbing during some scenes. The idea of a "Son of Frankenstein" creating monsters in a mix of humans and (old) technology was not new, but very creepy.
The acting: well, you can not expect Oscar worthy appearances in a movie like this. To see Luke Newberry (BBC's "In the Flesh") brought a familiar face into it. As cheesy as it was, it still was a good "first person" horror flick that made the best of a low budget and might give some faint hearted people nighmares ;).
