Review of Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943) by Cancelled U — 15 Jun 2008
Bela Legosi's turn as The Monster was some of the most overacting I've ever seen, which makes me wonder if he did it out of spite of not getting the role originally. Lon Chaney's performance as the Wolf Man grows on me with each film I see him in. Originally I wasn't too impressed, but he has a way of bringing out the sadness in the character that I'm not sure anyone else could do (except maybe Boris Karloff.).
For a typical Hollywood sequel, it's actually pretty well written. They were able to use the concept of Frankenstein's creation and apply it successfully to the storyline of The Wolf Man and not have it seemed forced (though it is a little campy, but that's the fun of it, right?).
