Not quite sure what the makers of this indie are going for. It plays like the lesser works of the Coen brothers with the eccentric nature of most of the characters somewhat redeeming this exercise in odd. Michael Fassbender plays Frank, the American lead singer of an experimental band of misfits. Most of Frank's time is spent trying to find musicality in everyday noise or demanding more and more practice sessions until the band gets it just right. And always he wears a huge, cartoonish ceramic head. Fassbender is great as always, and one has to admire an actor on the rise for taking such a role. We only see Fassbender's face at the end of the film when Frank's true persona is revealed. Maggie Gyllenhaal is a stand-out as well playing the angry Clara who seems ready to kill for Frank should the need arise.

Not a strong recommendation for Frank as the film itself is an also experiment that doesn't work out very well in the end for anyone.
