Review of Frank (2014) by Michael S — 31 Aug 2014
Frank is a damn fine movie that suffers from the flaw of feeling like 2 separate films in one. On the one side it's a film about the pitfalls of playing music that isn't going to appeal to a wide audience vs selling out, and on the other side it's a film about the struggles of mental illness.
I think in the end the two sides don't come together quite as well as they should have, but Frank is such an eccentric piece of filmmaking that the shortcomings don't ever derail it. It some ways though, I wish it had either followed through with the first half, or started off more dramatic like the second.
