Review of Frank (2014) by Amilcar A — 31 Aug 2014
Sometimes movies are just made because someone with a good idea can. This idea can be as preposterous or outlandish as you can imagine and someone will pony up a few bucks to make it.
If on top of that you can get top actors like Michael Fassbender and Maggie Gyllenhaal you're in business.
Frank is a comedy that becomes dramatic and sad. While the movie is portrayed as a dark comedy - and trust me there are some great laughs - ultimately it's about mental disease, loneliness and not fitting in.
The story is about a band that is just a bit too weird for it's own good. It's led by Frank, a man that wears a giant paper mask. This is funny until you learn it's not. Then it becomes tragic and sad.
In spite of the weirdness and wackiness, Frank is a really good indie film that is worth a couple of hours and a couple of dollars.
