Review of Frank (2014) by Dany L — 08 Sep 2014
Definitely impactful, but sways on the bleaker side. The film feels mostly impersonal and disconnected, skimming the surface of mental illness and giving an outside-looking-in perspective of the creative process and human relationships, just almost delivering that "aha" moment of existential clarity.
However, the performances are good and the cinematography is impressive. I had a lingering feeling of melancholy after I left the theatre, which speaks to the film's gravity.
