Review of Frances Ha (2013) by Eric A — 30 Aug 2013
Greta Gerwig is wonderful as Frances...and this movie is still running here in New York because many artists are in her position. She captures the insecurity of any artist that plugs along and still nothing else in their life has really gelled.
The montages are many, and the acting is endearing. The negatives are the short vignettes or nano-vignettes are more like captions in a comic. Perhaps this movie will not appeal to everyone over fifty.
Yet Ms. Gerwig's film wins you over in the end....with Chekhovian moments, Woody Allen insight, and Ingmar Bergman sadness...a bittersweet comedy that lets you know you will be okay even if you are.
...you!
