Review of Frances Ha (2013) by Kilo D — 03 Nov 2013
"Frances Ha" is a delightful surprise of a movie, bursting with personality and wit, captured in an illustrious black and white that was shot on a Canon with the same video codec that's in my Canon and so I have a bias as I spent most of the first viewing admiring the style.
Frances, from trailers, looked to be another annoying side character from "Girls" (and there are cast members of that show present, and from "The Newsroom") yet was someone who felt like a friend.
The entire cast of characters are interesting, a few just mere sketches, and they're helped by a playful, French New Wave inspired script that is also teaming with early Woody Allen. One may not be up for ninety minutes devoted to friendship in modern times, and may look back in years and wonder how accurate the movie is about twenty-somethings in this decade.
Nevertheless, "Frances Ha" is an authentic, warm and enjoyable way to spend ninety minutes.
