Review of Frances Ha (2013) by Jack H — 01 Dec 2013
Frances Ha is a celebration of youth, with all the pros and mostly the cons it has, and as it, it acomplishes to charm and leave a smile in our face, and that's what's really important.
Noah Baumbach takes a totally different step in his fourth major full lenght, and not just because it's in black and white, but because he focuses on themes more accesible, without leaving his characteristic uncomfortableness. As always his narrative focuses on making us feel identified with his difficult protagonist, a protagonist that feels so universal and at the same time so specific. Greta Gerwig makes an endearing performance, and manages to make a character imposible to forget. Friendship, Quarter life crisis, Being broke, fighting for your dreams, being young, whatever. Frances Ha is cinema that you enjoy watching, even if it's not perfect.
