Review of Frances Ha (2013) by Huw G — 06 Jan 2015
Almost endless angst and the awkwardness of trying to say and do the right things, a few really nice, genuine and happy moments, and a happy ending. I didn't see much of the boundless optimism and zest for life that others have written about.
And yes, it does feel like someone trying to be Woody Allen for a new generation, ticking all the same well worn boxes in slightly updated ways. Compelling, but could have been a lot cheerier.
