Review of Frances (1982) by Byron R — 11 Dec 2007
Okay let's just sit here for a minute. First of all, do you know who Frances Farmer was? Did you read her book Will There Ever BE A Morning. Okay do that first. It's important. Then watch Jessica Lange and Sam Shepard (yes the movie they met on) kick some major acting ass.
I'm not saying this movie will lift your spirits....but is that really why we watch movies anyway? This film moved me in a way that cannot be described. Now the real question is why me, a ten year old at the time, became obsessed with Frances Farmer in the first place.
I remember begging my Mom to see an "R" rated movie. MY Dad finally caved, they all did. I mean it wasn't like I wanted to see American Pie. I wanted to see the journey of a woman who goes insane.
And then my love affair with all things Jessica Lange began. Not the Jessicas' we have now. It's just insane acting. Insane. The movie isn't shot great and the directing is a little shady but Lange rules.
FOREVER SHE RULES.
