Review of Frailty (2002) by Cesar G — 16 Dec 2010
Involving story about brothers whose dad begins having visions of an angel who directs him to start doing God's work, which involves killing demons who look just like people. The younger son is all for it, convinced that they are now a family of superheroes, whereas the older son thinks dad has gone mental.
The mom has passed away, so it is just the boys, and the dad has put the older boy in a huge predicament at an age when one first begins to wonder about dad's invincibility. This in itself is an interesting situation and would have been enough plot for a southern gothic horror story.
The writer gets a bit overexcited and piles on a trick ending which partially works but reveals plenty of misdirection earlier in the narrative. Bill Paxton makes for a fine director and the originality of the premise makes for a gripping tale.
