Review of Foxy Brown (1974) by Jason K — 02 Feb 2008
In 2005, I celebrated Blaxploitation History Month. I skipped it in 2006 and 2007 and am glad to not only be celebrating it once more but to be kicking it off with one of my favorites.
Pam Grier delivers lines like, "Death is too good for you, bitch" with the same admirable sincerity that one would perform Edward Albee. Antonio Fargas and Sid Haig give tone perfect performances. No, I really mean it. In a film populated with such great bad acting, they're actually great actors. And yes, I can look you in the eye with a straight face to say that and have no trouble sleeping that night.
I also forgot how much I adore the music of Willie Hutch.
