Review of Foxy Brown (1974) by Greg D — 27 Feb 2012
Unquestionably entertaining with some over the top dialogue, violence (why castration, why?!?), and humor, Blaxploitation star Pam Grier uses her sex appeal and street smarts to take down a drug and prostitution ring led by a black female antagonist who employs the service of 3 white men.
After Foxy Brown's man is murdered, revenge fuels her system. It is her against the ring, and no one is going to stop her. But, of course, this ridiculous idea for a blaxploitation film is not the most intelligent work.
Made in 1974, it is a film that could easily fit into the simple-mindedness that most films made today incur. Because Pam Grier, the black iconic star, is the protagonist heroine in it though, the film gets a slight pass.
