Review of Four Rooms (1995) by Jarrett M — 05 Aug 2012
Four Rooms is a film I am of two minds about. On one hand, I enjoyed the film and the performance of Tim Roth as Ted the bellhop experiences a night from hell. On the other hand, the segments or 'rooms' in the film are very hit and miss and lack humour in a film that is supposedly a comedy.
The first 2 rooms, The Missing Ingrediant and The Wrong Man, are both rather terrible and unenjoyable. The only saving grace of the first half of the film is Tim Roth's performance. Once you get past those, The Misbehavers and The Man From Hollywood, directed by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino respectively, things pick up.
The movie takes a turn for the better and the humour and pace both increase. In all, a disappointing film given the premise and potential, but thanks to the final 2 rooms and a quirky and amusing performance from Tim Roth, I give this a mild recommendation.
Most definately not a film for everyone, but fans of Rodriguez and Tarantino will probably find something to enjoy.
