Review of Four Minutes (2005) by Maria Z — 29 May 2009
The first line of the New York Times review says it all: "A women-behind-bars plot seething with lesbianism, incest, hanging and catfights â?? on paper, at least, â??Four Minutesâ?? promises more fun than a Roger Corman marathon.
" For the more voyeuristic amongst you, this magnificent film will sadly disappoint. In reality a two-hander of two very different but equally damaged women, one an elderly spinster piano teacher and the other a profoundly troubled prison inmate, who somehow manage to connect across a chasm of differences and a few unexpected commonalities.
A talky women's prison drama doesn't sound like much chop, but this film is not to be missed. Be very afraid of the Hollywood remake (if and when it comes)!
