Review of Four Brothers (2005) by Eva Marie L — 13 May 2012
This is one of my favorite movies. The acting is impeccable and Singleton really got across. My biggest reason for loving this is how the color lines were broken. Not just broken but CRUSHED. Yes, two white men and two black men can equal REAL brothers. Those same four men can do love their adoptive Mother their willing to kill - and die - for her.
Admittedly, it's not the most realistic of films but I can get past that when it's done right. Hedlund's part, one the street toward the end, has stayed with my for years (as has his short shower shot - major complaint - that could have been longer!).
The characters played by Tyrese and Andre didn't act white, Wahlberg and Hedlund's characters didn't act black. They were themselves, no more, no less.
This is one of the few movies I can watch numerous times over the years.
The casting was perfect IMO. I'd really urge anyone interested to watch the movie before giving in too much to the negative reviews - this is truly an awesome movie.
I almost forgot - Sofia Vergara is pure hotness. She doesn't have the largest role but she's there enough and sexy as hell.
