Review of Four Brothers (2005) by Melanye B — 29 Apr 2010
Ahh, people who know me are already aware of my fondness for Mark Wahlberg. And this movie made me love him more, and appreciate newcomer Garrett Hedlund.
This movie was a surprising win for me, I didn't expect much from it but it soon became a favorite. I liked the dynamic between the brothers, the mother's continued presence throughout the film, and the somewhat unspoken understanding between Bobby and the cops. The only thing I thought was a bit weak was the villain, Victor Sweet.
He was nasty, for sure, but he just seemed...like a caricature. He didn't seem real to me at all, more like an amalgamation of dozens of gangster stereotypes. His posse seemed a little better developed than he was!
All in all, an enjoyable film. Action, violence, humor and emotion were in good balance, and I got my Marky Mark fix ^_^.
